Berlin, September 2025 — Ochy, the world’s leading AI-powered gait analysis platform, partnered with adidas at the 51st BMW-Berlin Marathon to unveil its new shoe recommendation technology. Developed and owned entirely by Ochy, this innovation combines runners’ gait analysis with 8 scientifically validated footwear parameters to instantly match them with the right shoes. The adidas Expo booth provided the stage for this global launch, where thousands of runners from around the world experienced personalized recommendations in real time.
How the Technology Works
The process is simple, fast, and effective – designed to elevate the point-of-sale experience in any retail store:
- Two iPads mounted on tripods and two treadmills were set up at the adidas booth.
- Runners registered their height and weight and filled out a 60-second questionnaire.
- A short 3-5 second gait video was recorded with the back-view analysis feature.
- Within 60 seconds, the gait analysis result was generated along with an instant shoe recommendation.

When demand skyrocketed at the Expo, Ochy’s team scaled seamlessly by using their own smartphones to operate at scale – proving just how adaptable and retail-ready the technology is.

The Science Behind It
The shoe recommendation engine considers 8 key footwear parameters to ensure maximum accuracy:
- Motion Control
- Midsole Thickness
- Carbon Plate
- Heel-to-Toe Drop
- Midsole Rigidity
- Bending Stiffness
- Rocker
- Shoe Weight
This goes far beyond traditional “comfort” or “profile” recommendations, offering objective & biomechanics driven results validated by Ochy’s research team and rigorous studies with our partner universities. A year of rigorous research has gone into building this technology to ensure the highest standard of precision. And the results from Berlin back this up:
- Average analysis time: 51 seconds
- Average shoe recommendation match: 2 seconds
- Recommendation accuracy distribution: majority of recommendations fall within 80–90% accuracy range
Athlete Tested, Runner Approved
Among the many who tested the technology was Jasper McDowell, marathon athlete from Geneva (CH), who was matched with the adizero Adios Pro 4. His reaction summed up the moment:
“A gamechanger for all runners around the world and not just us athletes.”

Why It Matters for Brands and Retailers
This launch marks a new era for personalized product finders. Unlike coded product filters, Ochy’s shoe recommendation engine integrates directly with:
- Brand product information databases and inventories (as done with adidas).
- Retailer setups that highlight key shoe details, enabling store assistants to make science-backed recommendations with confidence.
The result: higher engagement, stronger conversion rates, and more objective decision-making at the point of sale.
