SportsShoes.com partners with Ochy to launch a free, lab-grade online gait analysis that runners can do from home

19.10.2026

For the first time, a complete AI-powered gait analysis based on a simple smartphone video can directly inform the running shoes recommended to each runner.

Ochy has partnered with SportsShoes.com, the UK’s leading online running retailer, to launch a new online gait analysis experience that connects running biomechanics directly with personalised footwear recommendations.

Using just a 10-second smartphone video, Ochy’s technology analyses running form across the whole body and generates a detailed biomechanics report in under a minute. Runners then receive personalised exercises and footwear recommendations based on their biomechanics, goals and running distances.

Free for SportsShoes Ultra members, the new experience brings gait analysis directly into the online shopping journey.

Developed in Rennes, France, since 2021, Ochy’s technology is already used by 175,000 people across 146 countries and trusted by leading sports organisations including ASICS, adidas and Juventus Football Club.

From a 10-second video to a full-body running analysis

The process starts with just 10 seconds of running filmed on a smartphone, either from the side or from behind.

Ochy’s computer vision technology tracks the runner’s major joints and body segments frame by frame, converting their movement into biomechanical data.

While many gait analysis tools, whether online or in-store, focus primarily on the feet, Ochy assesses six key areas across the whole body:

  • Running posture, showing how the body is positioned throughout the gait cycle
  • Cadence, measuring step rate and overall running rhythm
  • Pelvic stability, assessing how efficiently the hips remain aligned while running
  • Lower limb alignment, analysing how the hips, knees and ankles work together
  • Running symmetry, identifying movement differences between the left and right sides
  • Footstrike and pronation, showing how the foot lands, rolls and absorbs impact

The analysis can also include metrics such as joint angles, ground contact time, trunk lean, pelvic drop and knee alignment.

Together, these insights help runners better understand how efficiently they absorb impact, maintain alignment and generate forward momentum.

Identifying movement imbalances runners may not feel

Many important aspects of running biomechanics are difficult for runners to identify themselves.

A runner may feel discomfort or notice that one side behaves differently from the other, without knowing exactly what is happening at the hips, knees or ankles during each stride.

Ochy makes these movements visible.

Once the analysis is complete, runners receive an overall biomechanics score alongside detailed measurements across different areas of their running form. Separate left and right scores can also reveal asymmetries that may otherwise be difficult to identify.

The objective is not simply to provide numbers, but to help runners understand what those results mean and what they can work on next.

Personalised exercises based on the analysis

The experience also turns biomechanical insights into practical recommendations.

Based on the results, Ochy provides personalised exercises designed to address areas where additional strength, mobility or stability work may be beneficial.

The report clearly explains the meaning of each score and helps runners understand which areas of their movement they may want to improve.

This means runners can move directly from analysing their gait to taking practical action based on their own results.

Connecting biomechanics directly to footwear recommendations

This is one of the key elements of the partnership between Ochy and SportsShoes.com.

The results of the gait analysis are connected directly to SportsShoes.com’s range of more than 150 brands, helping recommend shoes matched to each runner’s biomechanics, goals and running distances.

Instead of selecting running shoes based only on appearance, price, reviews or general product categories, runners can now also use objective information about the way they move.

This creates a more personalised approach to online shoe selection, connecting how a runner moves, what they need and the footwear available to them.

As Dan Cartner, Marketing Director at SportsShoes.com, explains:

“Most runners have no idea what their hips and knees actually do across a stride, and they're picking shoes without that knowledge. Knowing your footstrike, your cadence and where your weak points are gives you something concrete to choose from.”

Built specifically for running

Ochy’s technology has been developed specifically for running analysis rather than adapted from general body-tracking software.

Its models are based on more than 200 peer-reviewed scientific studies and have been validated against the 3D motion-capture systems used in university biomechanics laboratories.

Biomechanical measurements are compared against reference ranges associated with efficient, lower-injury-risk running and adjusted to the individual runner.

The same technology is already used by ASICS, adidas and Juventus Football Club, as well as running specialists, coaches and healthcare professionals around the world.

From the London Running Lab to runners’ homes

The new digital experience builds on an existing collaboration between Ochy and SportsShoes.com.

For four months at the beginning of 2026, Ochy’s technology was available in the Running Lab at SportsShoes.com’s House of SportsShoes store in London, giving runners access to advanced gait analysis in-store.

The new online experience removes the geographical limitation.

Runners can now complete their analysis from home, receive their results in under a minute and immediately access personalised recommendations.

Gait analysis is becoming increasingly popular among runners

Demand for gait analysis is growing rapidly.

According to the SportsShoes.com 2026 Running Report, 25% of runners in the UK have already had their gait analysed, compared with fewer than 7% the previous year.

Adoption is highest among runners aged 25 to 34, with one third having already completed a gait analysis, compared with 13% of runners aged 55 and over.

This reflects a broader shift in running.

Runners increasingly want to understand not only how far or how fast they run, but also how their body moves while they run.

Biomechanical insights can add another layer to traditional training data, helping runners make more informed decisions around training, injury prevention and footwear.

A new step in Ochy’s mission

For Ochy, the SportsShoes.com partnership represents another major step towards making lab-quality biomechanics accessible to everyday runners.

As Khaldon Evans, CEO of Ochy, explains:

“Partnering with SportsShoes.com is a major step forward in our mission to bring lab-quality running gait analysis directly to everyday runners. We want to help people understand their movement, find the right exercises and footwear, reduce injury risks, and stay active for life.”

By combining AI video analysis, biomechanical insights, personalised exercises and footwear recommendations, Ochy and SportsShoes.com are creating a new way for runners to understand their movement and choose the right products for their needs.

And it all starts with just 10 seconds of running filmed on a smartphone.
